b.    Reminder – semi-annual dues; donate breakfast funds – a reminder e-mail has been sent out to members.  Randy Momot is putting a summary of the breakfast funds donations.  Randy will be asking for someone to help him with processing receipts for donations when they are received rather than at the end of the year.
c.    TV Auction – Annie – sent out an email to each member listing previous donors that they are being asked to contact.  This initial contact is only to determine whether they are going to be able to donate again this year.  The actual ask won’t happen until September.  The committee is meeting on August 10th and want to assess how much support they can anticipate given the pandemic this year.  Annie is asking people to report back to her by August 9th.

Dave reported that the District PI committee is focusing attention on supporting the member recruitment process and building plans around web site, database and social media strategy.  The PI committee is also planning media strategy, including television, print, radio and social media for this fall’s major Polio fundraiser, the Dr. Ron Mergl Memorial Pedal for Polio Plus.

10.    Rotary Moment/Happy Loonies: Paul S.
Rotary Moment:
A wheel has been the symbol of Rotary since our earliest days. The first design was made by Chicago Rotarian Montague Bear, an engraver who drew a simple wagon wheel, with a few lines to show dust and motion. The wheel was said to illustrate "Civilization and Movement." Most of the early clubs had some form of wagon wheel on their publications and letterheads. Finally, in 1922, it was decided that all Rotary clubs should adopt a single design as the exclusive emblem of Rotarians. Thus, in 1923, the present gear wheel, with 24 cogs and six spokes was adopted by the "Rotary International Association." A group of engineers advised that the geared wheel was mechanically unsound and would not work without a "keyway" in the center of the gear to attach it to a power shaft. So, in 1923 the keyway was added and the design which we now know was formally adopted as the official Rotary International emblem.
