Special Guest
David Alexander, the Area Governor introduced District Governor Bob Artis. Bob is a consultant in
Buffalo for a global robotics company. A distinguished veteran, Bob hails from Missouri. He served in Thailand
and Germany. Through his time in Rotary – Bob has worked on water and sanitation plans in Thailand
and has attended 13 international conferences. Bob served in his home club of Clarence, NY as the
president and is a multiple Paul Harris recipient. He and his wife Corinne have 4 children, 10
grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Bob spoke on the Rotary theme of “Rotary Connects the World”. Bob presented our newest member
who was present with a sticker from the Rotary International conference. He presented our president
with Rotary socks that he and Frank were wearing. Bob shared that he has business cards from other
District Governors from around the world. He had Mike draw a card – and tasked him with emailing this
DG ( from the Phillipines) to introduce himself. He did the same activity with Hugh.
Bob shared around the room the gavel first used at the District Council meeting in 1977. There were
525 districts and each received a one of a kind gavel. The gavel is made from multiple woods and each is
unique. Each has four splinters embedded in a map of the US. Each is from wood taken from four
locations in the US. One – the Paul Harris boardroom, one from Independence Hall, one for the Light
House used to send the message to Paul Revere and one from the Bristol Stone Pine.
Bob's stories of his time in Rotary served to remind the club members of the importance of the work that is done and the connections we all have with other Rotarians around the world.
The members of the club thanked Bob and his wife Corinne and expressed appreciation for the work he does.
