Welcome:        Mel welcomed Parker Triano and Cameron Furlong the E.L.Crossley students who participated in Slapshot Camp.  She also welcomed MaryLou Hillyer and Patrick O’Hara from the Fonthill Lions Club.

Slapshot Camp:           Cameron and Parker spoke regarding their experiences at the one-week Rotary Slapshot camp.  Cameron indicated that the camp experience helped her to become more comfortable speaking to those in her group and in the camp.  She felt she gained confidence in her speaking and sharing her ideas.   Parker indicated that he learnt a great deal about the different leadership styles and about the role of Rotary and Interact.  Cameron is currently part of the Interact Club at Crossley while Parker is now going to be joining the group.  Both expressed their appreciation for being part of the experience and thanked the Rotary Club of Fonthill.

Fonthill Lions Club:      Mel introduced our guests from the Fonthill Lions Club and indicated that Frank will be attending a Lions meeting to share about Rotary.  Marylou made a presentation about the Lions Club.  The Lions were chartered in 1945.  They own 7.5 acres of land at Klager Park.  The motto of all Lions Clubs  is “We Serve” which was suggested by the Fonthill Lions.  The Global focus of the club includes addressing hunger, vision issues, the environment, diabetes and pediatric cancer.    The Fonthill Club currently has 18 active members.  Their main fundraiser is the Sliderfest scheduled this year for August 24th, 2019.  This event, now entering its third year, was originated to raise the funds for the Meridian Community Centre lift.   Their goal was to raise $5,000 a year for five years and they have already reached their target total.   Sliderfest is a one day taste competition of mini-burgers cooked by local chefs/restaurants.  There is entertainment by Rhythm of the Hounds, children’s events, silent auction, and a 50/50 draw.  Last year’s 500 attendees had a great evening eating burgers, corn and french fries and enjoying the entertainment.   MaryLou asked Rotary to support this event by attending, supplying silent auction items, volunteering and promoting this.  More information is available at sliderfest.ca

Induction:         The Rotary Club of Fonthill was pleased to induct Janet Cripps, program leader of Guidance at E.L. Crossley.  Frank recited the induction, and Janet’s sponsor, Ann pinned Janet with her rotary pin.  The club members all welcomed Janet to the group.
