Welcome:        Mel welcomed Parker Triano and Cameron Furlong the E.L.Crossley students who participated in Slapshot Camp.  She also welcomed MaryLou Hillyer and Patrick O’Hara from the Fonthill Lions Club.
Slapshot Camp:           Cameron and Parker spoke regarding their experiences at the one-week Rotary Slapshot camp.  Cameron indicated that the camp experience helped her to become more comfortable speaking to those in her group and in the camp.  She felt she gained confidence in her speaking and sharing her ideas.   Parker indicated that he learnt a great deal about the different leadership styles and about the role of Rotary and Interact.  Cameron is currently part of the Interact Club at Crossley while Parker is now going to be joining the group.  Both expressed their appreciation for being part of the experience and thanked the Rotary Club of Fonthill.
Fonthill Lions Club:      Mel introduced our guests from the Fonthill Lions Club and indicated that Frank will be attending a Lions meeting to share about Rotary.  Marylou made a presentation about the Lions Club.  The Lions were chartered in 1945.  They own 7.5 acres of land at Klager Park.  The motto of all Lions Clubs  is “We Serve” which was suggested by the Fonthill Lions.  The Global focus of the club includes addressing hunger, vision issues, the environment, diabetes and pediatric cancer.    The Fonthill Club currently has 18 active members.  Their main fundraiser is the Sliderfest scheduled this year for August 24th, 2019.  This event, now entering its third year, was originated to raise the funds for the Meridian Community Centre lift.   Their goal was to raise $5,000 a year for five years and they have already reached their target total.   Sliderfest is a one day taste competition of mini-burgers cooked by local chefs/restaurants.  There is entertainment by Rhythm of the Hounds, children’s events, silent auction, and a 50/50 draw.  Last year’s 500 attendees had a great evening eating burgers, corn and french fries and enjoying the entertainment.   MaryLou asked Rotary to support this event by attending, supplying silent auction items, volunteering and promoting this.  More information is available at
Induction:         The Rotary Club of Fonthill was pleased to induct Janet Cripps, program leader of Guidance at E.L. Crossley.  Frank recited the induction, and Janet’s sponsor, Ann pinned Janet with her rotary pin.  The club members all welcomed Janet to the group.
Business Meeting:
Breakfast:       Mel shared that we are returning to the MCC breakfast options.  Please let her know of any or all of your dietary restrictions and requirements so that these can be accomodated.
WellSpring veranda:    The Wellspring Great Room is the Rotary Tour du Lac great room and now the Veranda is the Rotary Club of FOnthill Veranda thanks to two anonymous donors.  Please take some time to go to Wellspring for a tour of their facility.
Cluster Grant:              Mel indicated that this grant has been approved by Rotary International.  Our club will submit $1,000 U.S. along with the other clubs to support maternal care in the mountains of Guatemala.
Funfest:                       Paul A advised the members that things are progressing well with plans for Funfest.  He shared some volunteers sign up opportunities.  We have three Saturdays to be at Sobey’s to promote Funfest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This starts on May 25th.  Please refer to Paul’s emails.  He also shared sign up for Friday June 14 and Saturday June 15th for set up of Funfest and for the actual event.
Summerfest and Suppermarket:         Roy shared sign up opportunities for Summerfest and Suppermarket/Band Shell.  Please mark these dates:   Summerfest is Saturday July 20th from 10:30am through until 12:30 p.m. with varying shifts available.  Roy will send more info but please remember that you will need SmartServe which you can get on line.  Suppermarket and Bandshell are both on August 8th.  We will need volunteers that evening.
Organizational Chart:  Mel distributed the organizational chart of committees and responsibilities.  She indicated to new members that they need to let her know where they would like to align their skills and talents.
Instructions for Club Runner:  It was noted that many new members do not have knowledge or access to Club Runner.  Please find attached to these minutes a “Intro to Club Runner” guide which will hopefully help.
