Meeting Minutes – Wednesday, February 28th , 2018

President’s Updates:

Mudfest

  • Early-bird registration closes March 2. So far there are 35 adults and 4 children who have registered.

  • Please promote through your social media @fonthillrotary and #Mudfest

  • Posters are available, please post these at your place of work or in the community. Please bring back any unused posters that you may have so they may be given to someone else.

  • There should be 20-25 registrations from Corporate teams.

Bowl for Kids Sake

  • No other corporate teams signed up so we have been asked to move to Saturday instead of Wednesday.

Rotary Training

  • Will take place in March 24, 2018 – (Tentative) Niagara County Community College, Sanborn, New York. President Paul is arranging a car pool for those interested in attending any of the three levels.

Rotaract

  • Brianna told the club that Rotaract had raised $1,800 which is three times what they had hoped for.

My Pelham

  • Please send stories to Carolyn and she will forward to MyPelham.

Tour du Lac

  • This will take place as a relay on the weekend of July 21st

  • Please contact Paul A if you are interested in being a driver

  • There will be 24 riders in 6 groups of 4. 18 riders have already signed up and each will commit to raise $3,000.

Cluster Grant

  • There will be a meeting on March 21st at the Welland Civic Centre to discuss. If 10 or the 14 clubs in the region participate and contribute $1,000 then the grant would be significant. Clubs will submit proposals and one will be selected to receive the grant.

Speaker:

The scheduled speaker was not able to attend so Andrew Larmand led a membership discussion. Andrew commented that membership is like the weather, we all talk about it but we are not sure what to do. Our first task was to interview the person sitting next to us and ask them questions related to why and how they joined Rotary. He then passed around a sheet listing the qualities of a prospective member and asked each table to discuss if any qualities were missing or if any of the listed qualities were not ones we considered accurate. Finally a list of classifications was passed around and we were asked to identify those that were missing from our club and asked to think who in the community might be able to fill that classification.

The outcome from this is that we should invite potential members to a breakfast, preferably a business meeting, where they can learn more about what Rotary does. There was also discussion of holding a wine and cheese social possibly in conjunction with the Welland Club.

Mel and Kelly agreed to join Andrew on the membership committee and they will look into planning a social around April 24th.

Announcement

Today was Mel’s last day at work after 40 years at RBC.
