Rotary Club of Fonthill Board Meeting
October 15, 2018
Are there any additions or corrections to agenda? Add Temperanceville and St John Ambulance Defibrillator to the agenda.
MOTION:  Amend agenda and accept last month’s minutes. MSC Bob Eamer/Roy Kirkup/All
Membership: Doug Dobrocky has resigned but will continue as a Friend of Rotary. Jayne Watson will become an honorary member and will be inducted at PHF dinner. Lyle Walker is happy to become an honorary member also.
Conference: 7 am Breakfast. Barry Rassin, International President of Rotary will be opening conference at 8 am. Be there by 745 for his session.  No Sew Blanket Engagement session will happen twice that day. Still looking for scissors. Bartending is an hour at the end. $150 for licence. Tickets for wine and beer, Rotary Beer.  Trying to keep costs down – asking for snacks and desserts for lunch if possible.
Paul Harris Evening: Andrew sent out an email blast. Agenda is set. Deadline is Monday October 29 for food orders. We have 2 community recipients and 3 Rotarians, latter TBA at event. Hugh brought up giving Darryl and Jack from Cogeco (YourTV) PHFs at the live auction. $350 would come from points from each of the original six clubs.
World Polio Day: October 24. Around the area, Welland is lighting the Main Street Bridge, Ice Dogs Hockey Game will have St Catharines Rotary Presidents drop the puck, Fort Erie Bridge will be lit for both Fort Erie and Buffalo clubs. Last year we lit up the Arches. Teresa will coordinate lights in the arches.
Club Secretary: Ann Harrison has problems getting to board meetings as it conflicts with work so we need a Secretary. Frank S could possibly cover the Board meetings. Need someone to take notes at regular meetings.
Fund Raising:  Paul Snack and Paul Allen have agreed to co-chair a Family Event at Bissell’s. Ed and Isabel are keen about it. Do it a month after Mudfest. June 8th is the date with the 15th a rain date. All revenues would be ours. Big Brothers and Big Sisters have had their in school mentoring funding slashed so this could be a fit for them. Maybe Shriners would do the food. We’d have to advertise. Sponsors? Welland Honda? Pen Financial is interested. BNR Stables may be able to do horse rides. Bob mentioned concern over alcohol and family event – shouldn’t be the main draw. Conflicts with BB and BS (I forget what they stand for!!) Next step – review plan, what to do, partnerships, costs, marketing plan, deadlines, team – 2 right now. MOTION: Move ahead with a Bissell Family Day. MSC Paul Snack/Mike Taylor/All.
TV Auction/Online Auction: At this point, please continue to enter. Deadline for entry moved to October 29 with the following Friday (the 2nd) as the last day for Annie to receive and take pictures of items. We’re over 30,000. Goal is 40,000 for value of items. Thanks for all you do and are about to do!
PHF evening: Flowers? Pat is getting gerberas for the tables. Invite Mayor Dave for update, greeting from town.
Temperanceville: Mike needs date and will then coordinate getting the houses down to the park and set up – with help of course.
Christmas Pelham Donation: We did get a request for a Christmas donation for Pelham. We have to say no and will send regrets.
Defibrillator for St John: Hugh mentioned that St John had requested support for replacing one of their defibrillators and that SJ had been a faithful donor for our Auction over the years – had probably paid the cost of one. Hugh proposed district grant as way to get the defibrillator for them. Further discussion was in support of grant application providing for both needed defibrillators. Frank said they have about an 8 year life. Teresa as chair of grants was in favour. MOTION: Apply for two defibrillators as our district grant this year.  MSC Paul Snack/Teresa Quinlin/All    We’ll announce at next meeting.
Finances: $17,800 in Bank
Clubrunner: Fees of $419/annual are due soon.
Small Banners: CRS hadn’t put the order in. They have now done so.
Motion to adjourn:  M Taylor
