Announcements/Correspondence/Business

Bandshell Sponsorship
  • Club has agreed to sponsor Bandshell Concert this summer and it is included in the current budget for $1000.  Rotarian Carolyn is going to choose a concert that suits our fun loving personalities!

Rotary Leadership Institute
  • An excellent opportunity to learn more about our local and global world of Rotary coming up March 23 from 8:30-4:15 in Stoney Creek.  Cost of $75 will be reimbursed by our club.  Registration available online.  Ann Harrison, Maria Suescun Poza, Angela Carter and Frank Adamson are attending to date.

Auction
  • Chair Hugh Graham had the please of presenting a cheque to President Mel in the amount of $16,420 representing our club’s efforts from Rotary TV Auction.  Thank you to Hugh and Annie for their dedicated efforts and to all for sourcing auction items.

Kinsmen Citizen of the Year
  • Last night Pelham celebrated our very own DGE Frank Adamson being honoured with the prestigious award of Citizen of the Year 2018.  We could not be prouder to call Frank our friend and fellow Rotarian.  He managed to raise $1150 for End Polio Campaign at a Kinsmen event and no one blinked an eye.  Frank and Judy took the $150 and matched it for a donation to End Cystic Fibrosis, which is the Kinsmen’s charity of choice.

Family Funfest Meeting
  • Initial Committee Meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 7 at 7:30pm to be held at Furtney Crysler office.  Marketing and duties will be discussed.  Try to make it and lend a hand.  As Paul A says, “Many hands make light work.”

Guest Speaker

Nicole Smith and Donna Abernethy shared their story about “education foundation of niagara”, which is a not for profit that supports the District School Board of Niagara students. They provide needed funds and resources where government funding is not available.  This could include solutions such as a nutritious breakfast, a new pair of glasses, a new pair of shoes or medication not covered by OHIP.  They take their lead from the teachers who know the students’ needs best and can request funds from the education foundation.  They cover the cost of every Grade 3 student in Niagara taking basic swimming lessons to keep kids safer around water.  They provide annual student bursaries to every high school.  They also provide community initiatives such as Prom Project Niagara, which supplies complete prom and grad wear to any Niagara student.

Board Meeting Next Week – All invited to attend
Wednesday, March 13 7:30am will be held in coffee shop at MCC.  There will be no breakfast served so bring your own coffee.

Go out and be the inspiration!
