District Grants Updates:
Guest Speaker - Ken Siggins
Ken Siggins joined our Rotary Club about a year ago. Ken was born and raised in Bermuda but came with friends to Mount Allison for University. He had a vision of being an accountant but got hooked on computers back when computing meant punch cards and waiting for processing. At Mount Allison he met his Montreal born wife. After graduating they worked in Bermuda for a while then returned to Montreal where he worked with CN Rail in computers. After 10 years, and as an English speaker, he left Montreal for Kitchener. From Kitchener he commuted to Mississauga to work at Rubbermaid. In 1993 when Rubbermaid closed due to NAFTA, Ken and his wife moved back to Bermuda where he then worked for 22 years in IT for a law firm. In 1995, Ken joined Rotary in Pembroke, Hamilton, Bermuda. Through Rotary in Bermuda he played many active roles including President. Bermuda is part of the same district as New York City so Ken traveled and met other Rotarians. He also attended the international conference.
On retirement, Ken and his wife moved to Welland, to Hunter`s Point, but Ken missed Rotary and wanted a breakfast club. He joined our club as a result. Ken is enjoying retirement and the community of friends he has met here. His daughter and her husband had a café in Bermuda and will soon open a business here in Welland.
The Rotary club appreciates Ken’s IT involvement as he maintains our ClubRunner.
Paul thanked Ken for sharing his story with the group.
