Fonthill Rotarians look to reward Community Builders and Volunteers - Service Above Self

The Rotary Club of Fonthill is once again ready to celebrate the humanitarian contributions of the Pelham community through the Paul Harris Fellowship Awards.

The Paul Harris Fellowship Award is one of the highest honours Rotary can bestow upon a person. Recipients are community professionals and volunteers, in recognition of their outstanding contributions which exemplify the highest ideal in Rotary - “Service above Self.”

The Rotary club also honours Paul Harris Fellows by donating a minimum of $1,000, in the recipient’s name, to Rotary International’s “Annual Fund SHARE program,” which supports Rotary’s world-wide programs centred on saving and enhancing lives by providing educational programs, food, potable water, health care, immunizations, shelters for millions of people, good environmental practices, and peace centres. The activities are funded, implemented and managed by Rotarians and Rotary clubs around the globe, including our own Rotary Club of Fonthill.

Past recipients who have earned this honour include teachers who have run after-school programs; volunteers from Pelham Cares; neighbourhood builders such as the principals behind the myPelham online community; business owners who give of their time and financial resources to make life better for those in need; and many others whose passion is to serve the community.  Famous recipients range from Mother Teresa to Arnold Palmer, Jane Goodall to Jimmy Carter, our own Doug Burr to another local Service Above Self person, Tom Rankin! Which well deserving people will receive the honour this year?

The club is currently seeking nominations from the wider Pelham/Niagara community, as well as from our fellow service clubs and from within our own Rotary membership.  Nominating someone is an easy process involving providing background information on why the individual is deserving.

Our Paul Harris Award evening will be on Thursday, June 4th, 2026.  The deadline to send a nomination - providing a name, contact information and at least one paragraph outlining why the individual is being nominated - is Thursday, April 30th, 2026.

June also marks our 35th Anniversary and our new Rotary Flag will be flown that first week at MCC coinciding with our Paul Harris Evening!

To nominate an individual, or find out more about the local nomination process, please contact Annie Holtby, Rotary Club of Fonthill Foundation Chair, at holtbyannie@gmail.com.
